Prairie Lights Bookstore, Iowa City

Francesca read from her essay ‘My father’s body’ in The Best Australian Science Essays (published November 2013) and excerpts from Bite Your Tongue at the Prairie Lights Bookstore in Iowa City on 23rd October 2013. It was a great success, the audience so attentive. It was broadcast ‘Live from Prairie Lights’ by Writing University, a group dedicated to providing updates about literary events in Iowa City and news from the University of Iowa’s writing programs.

This special event was sponsored by the Nonfiction Writing Program at the University of Iowa, Iowa City. Francesca is a guest there as an International Fellow, thanks to the University of Wollongong and the Copyright Agency.

Francesca was interviewed by Kate Evans from Radio National’s Book+ program in a salon at Avid Books in West End, Brisbane on Friday 10 May 2013 6-8pm.

This was a very exciting gig because it was the first occasion that this book has been spoken about in public in the very place it’s set – an evocation of an extraordinary time and era in Brisbane’s history as told through the experience of one girl.

North Melbourne Library

Francesca appeared at the North Melbourne Library where she talked about her book Bite your tongue, about writing and the back stories behind her work. C
